Do as Coco

Hello to my fellow beautiful people from across the Caribbean. Since this is our very first introduction to each other I’ll start off with my name, it is Jeovanie pronounced (g-o-va-ni) I had to do that only because all my life people have butchered my name! This very first blog will be solely dedicated to on some simple fashion advice that I have adopted from Coco and a few daring women in my life. Coco Chanel will always be one of my favorite fashion icons because her sole purpose was to change fashion and break barriers during her time. When in any fashion doubts, think to yourself “what would Coco do”?  You will be sure to make the right choice. It’s a New Year and I want you all to look and feel your very best!

I am definitely in love with everything that is fashion, & I don’t mean passionate about labels (Prada, Chanel, Gucci etc…) that doesn’t make you a fashionista. A real fashion lover in my humble opinion is one who can wear ANYTHING and make it look good! Something from Goodwill with a pair of designer shoes they purchased off the sale rack. Those men and women are usually the ones that catch our eyes immediately when they walk in the room. Following trends does not make you a fashionista! I repeat be your own person. Who cares what everyone else is wearing, taking risks and being your own person makes you unforgettable. Coco Chanel said it best “trendy is the last stage before tacky”. Never forget what you have on says a lot about you!

Now let’s start with some simple fashion advice/rules that I feel we all should know. When in doubt men or women, all black never hurts. So many times I sat in my closet frustrated about what to wear and then it hits me like a flying baseball: all black! Whether it is a simple black dress that you pair with a wicked leather jacket (in due time you will come to realize I am obsessed with leather) or a stunning statement piece. Maybe even a very chic black blazer with a tailored bottom, either way all black never ever fails.

Now ladies we are in a brand new year fashion is evolving in so many ways, and the accessories literally can make a very simple outfit extraordinary. Because accessories matter so much it pains me to see when women over do it. Carrying a clutch that coordinates with your shoes, bracelets, neck piece, rings, and earrings (you see how exhausting that was to read, that is how we see you *insert rolling eyes emoji*) tells the world that you have absolutely no idea what you are doing. Now ask yourself “What would Coco do”? Simple Coco said “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” If you decided to coordinate with every piece of accessory, I say take 3 things off (don’t question it, like Nike just do it) the clutch/bag you are carrying does not necessarily have to match every accessory. You most certainly do not need an arm full of bracelets and a neck piece; lose one or two. I can carry on and on, and have you read a 5 page blog on the rules/advice, because I want you to come back and read these blogs I will spare you since we are just getting to know each other. There will be a “Do as Coco Deux” and possibly “Do As Coco Trois”. Since I believe in numerology (different time, different blog) we will stop at trois. Until next time beautiful people.

“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.”
